The Sims 4 goes free-to-play

Last Updated September 16th, 2022

EA recently announced that one of its biggest games is going free-to-play. The base version of The Sims 4 will be free for everyone on October 18, but there’s still no official word yet about the future of the series.

While The Sims 4 has been incredibly popular, gamers have been asking about the next game in the series for years. It was released in 2014, and there’s still no confirmation that a sequel is coming. This has been the longest gap between sequels for the series, and fans are starting to get pretty impatient, considering it’s been eight years since the last release.

Industry leaker Jeff Grubb has commented that the announcement for The Sims 5 is “likely” to come next month. EA has announced it has a special stream called “Behind The Sims Summit” planned for October 18 at 10 am PT, where it will share more information about “what’s in the works.”
