Pokémon Legends Arceus: What to do after you beat the game

Last Updated February 11th, 2022

The post-game of Pokémon Legends Arceus is massive, perhaps bigger than any other Pokémon game to date. So don’t stop playing just because you watched the credits roll. Some of the toughest fights and rarest Pokémon await you, if you are willing to take them on. Here are just a few things you can do in Legends Arceus’s postgame.

Collect Your Bonus Pokémon

After the credits roll for the first time, some special Pokémon become available to pick up depending on what other Pokémon games you have played on your Switch.

If you’ve played Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, you will receive a special request to catch Darkrai after booting up the post-game. If you’ve played Pokémon Sword and Shield, you will receive a similar request to catch Shaymin. Both of these can be picked up at the blackboard near Professor Lavention in Galactic Hall.

Unlock the True Ending

The credits actually roll far before Pokémon Legends Arceus is over. You only complete about 17 main missions in the core game, and about ten extra are available in the post-game. Completing them will eventually lead you to yet another ending that wraps up some unresolved plot points from the original ending.

The Shiny Charm

If you want to increase your rate of shiny encounters, then you’ll have to complete that Pokedex. By reaching research level 10 on all Pokémon in the Hisuian Pokedex in post-game, you will get the Shiny Charm as a reward. This greatly increases the rate of Shiny Pokémon spawns in the wild, which is a must if you are a shiny hunter.

Research Requests

New Research Requests pop up after you complete the game once. Completing them will make new species of Pokémon start to spawn in the regions you have already visited. This is the only way to capture a good portion of the game’s Pokémon and is necessary if you want to complete the Pokedex.

Get the Other Starters

By visiting Professor Laventon at Galactic Hall after beating the game, he decides to simply hand over the other two Hisuian starter Pokémon that you didn’t receive at the beginning of the game. No need to make multiple save files and trade this time.

YET MORE LEGENDARY POKÉMON!

Uxie, Mesprit, and Azelf

The three lake guardians are able to be caught in Pokémon Legends Arceus. You’ll have to take on the post-game mission, “The Plate of the Lakes” by talking to Cogita at the Ancient Retreat. This will task you with visiting all the lakes in the game, Lake Verity in Obsidian Fieldlands, Lake Acuity in Alabaster Icelands, and Lake Valor in Crimson Mirelands. Each lake will have its own trial to complete, and upon completing them all you can return to the lakes to catch Uxie, MEsprit, and Azelf.

Heatran

By taking on the mission “The Plate of Firespit Island,” also by talking to Cogita at the Ancient Retreat in post-game, you can catch Heatran. You need to go to the Cobalt Coastlands’ Firespit Island and enter the volcano cave in the northwest, where Heatran is then available to be caught. Note, to take on this mission you will have to already have collected the Stone Plate by talking to Volo in the Obsidian Fieldlands.

Cresselia

Another legendary Pokémon attached to a plate quest, Cresselia can be caught during the post-game mission “The Plate of Moonview Arena,” again gotten by speaking to Cogita and the Ancient Retreat. You’ll find her at the Moonview Arena area of the Cobalt Coastlands.

Regigigas

After obtaining the Stone, Iron, and Ice plates, and speaking with Cogita, you can attempt to capture Regigigas by going to the Snowpoint Temple in Alabaster Icelands. This also gets you the Blank plate which is a needed item if you want to move on and try to capture the ultimate Pokémon of Legends Arceus, Giratina, and Arceus respectively.

Battle and Capture Giratina

Once you have captured all the previous Pokémon that we have mentioned and collected all of the plates, go back to the Ancient Retreat and talk to Cogita. After giving her three pieces of wood, you can then head on to one of your most difficult battles yet. Head to the Coronet Highlands and go to the top of Mt. Coronet. You’ll have to fight an incredibly difficult gauntlet, starting with Volo and a team of level 68 pokemon, then Giratina, first in Altered Forme and second in Origin Forme. After defeating this god of darkness, return to Jubilife Village and speak to Professor Laventon who will say he saw a huge shadow. Go to the Cobalt Coastlands and head to the Turnback Cave, and you will have yet another battle with Giratina, and this time you have to catch it. After catching Giratina, you can speak to Professor Laventon to get the Griseous Core from him, which will allow Giratina to change forms.

Landorus, Thundurus, Tornadus, and Enamorus

The Mythical Djinni can be captured by taking on the post-game request “The Incarnate Forces of Hisui” which only shows up after you have managed to gather all of the legendary plates, finish the fight against Volo, and Commander Kamado, encountered Giratina, and caught Azelf, Mesprit, Heatran, Cresselia, and Regigigas. You can accept it by speaking with Cogita at Galaxy Hall.

They spawn just like normal wild Pokémon, but they are incredibly difficult battles and even more difficult to catch. Landorus will spawn in the Ramanas Island of the Obsidian Fieldlands during clear weather, Thundurus will spawn in the Cobalt Coastlands  near the camp by the water during heavy rain, and Tornadus spawns in the Alabaster Icelands when it snows.

After catching these three, you can catch Enamorus by raising the Mythical Djinni’s research level to ten and then speaking with Cogita again. After doing so, you can find Enamorus in the Scarlet Bog area of the Crimson Mirelands.

Capturing Arceus

The final challenge of Pokémon Legends Arceus is capturing the Pokegod himself. You will have to have done EVERYTHING ELSE WE HAVE MENTIONED HERE, collected all the plates, and captured all Pokémon except for Darkrai and Shaymin.

Talk to Professor Laventon after achieving this and he will be ecstatic to see that you have encountered all the Pokémon that the land has to offer. He will give you a new mission and tell you to head to the Temple of Sinnoh on Mount Coronet.

When you get there, play the Azure Flute that you received after beating Volo and Giratina.

Now you’ll have to fight Arceus in a Noble Pokémon Battle. Doing so will allow you to catch him without throwing a single Pokeball.

All in all, there is more post-game content than there is main game content in Pokémon Legends Arceus, so have fun getting out there and truly attempting to catch em’ all.
