Live action Dynasty Warriors movie releasing in China in April

Even overseas, video game movies are still a hot commodity. Proof of that comes in the form of the upcoming live-action film, Dynasty Warriors hitting theaters in China on April 30, 2021.

For those unfamiliar, the Koei Tecmo video game franchise is inspired by the Chinese historical text, Records of the Three Kingdoms, which tells the story of the late Eastern Han dynasty (184–220 AD) and the Three Kingdoms period (220–280 AD). The film follows the events of the yellow turban rebellion period and the fall of tyrannical Dong Zhuo, who ruled in China from 189 to 192 AD.

Announced way back in 2016, the movie is directed by Roy Chow and stars Louis Koo, Carina Lau, Wang Kai, Tony Yang, Han Geng, Ray Liu, among others. There’s no word on when or if the film will release outside of China, but you can check out the action-packed trailer below:
