We’ve known for some time now that Blizzard’s demon-slaying RPG Diablo III is making the jump to next-gen with its upcoming release on Sony’s PlayStation 4, and now we finally have confirmation that Xbox One owners won’t be left out in the cold.

In a recent interview with VideoGamer.com, Diablo III producer Alex Mayberry confirmed that an Xbox One version of Diablo III: Ultimate Evil Edition (which includes both the base game and the Reaper of Souls expansion) was developed in tandem with the PlayStation 4 version. According to Mayberry, the decision to develop simultaneously for both consoles was a logical one for the company:

“It makes more sense. We have that pipeline worked out. We’ve already done it with the 360 and PS3, so that team knows how to develop at the same time for both of those platforms. That’s just what we do. And then Blizzard and Microsoft can work out whatever they work out.”

That last part references the fact that even though an Xbox One version of Diablo III: Ultimate Evil Edition is being developed, Blizzard has yet to reach an agreement with Microsoft to actually release the title. Since Blizzard has already gone through the trouble of developing the game’s Xbox One version, it would likely be in Microsoft’s interests to give them the green light — but for now we’ll have to wait and see what Microsoft does.

No release date has been set for the PlayStation 4 version of Diablo III but Mayberry did drop a hint in the interview, saying “it’s not far off….”
